The principles of Right Mind Right Life, which has its roots

in Sanskrit and is one of the eight paths to enlightenment, emphasizes the significance of being consistently aware, mindful, and attentive to four aspects of our being:

  • the activities of our body,

  • our feelings and sensations,

  • the occupation of our mind and,

  • the information we gain through direct experience.

This practice helps us better understand how our mind, body, feelings and life experiences are connected and affect our perception. With this knowledge, we can determine what choices will move us toward a healthy, happy life.

The Negative Mind

Our brains tend to focus more on negative than positive thoughts due to a "negativity bias" that developed in our ancestors. This bias helped them identify potential dangers for survival. Even in our modern world, where we lead safer lives, our brains continue to operate based on this survival instinct, constantly seeking ways to protect us from harm.

Focusing on negative thoughts has complex effects on healing. It heightens caution and alertness, aiding safety. However, it may lead to anxiety, depression, rumination, and blurring past trauma with present circumstances.

The good news is that through evidence-based therapies like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and cognitive techniques, we can train our brains to find a balance and take control of our emotions, leading to a more positive outlook on our circumstances

Benefits of Counselling

Counselling plays a vital role in building positive emotional and mental health. It offers a structured and supportive environment where you can engage in meaningful conversations and gain insight into your beliefs, feelings, and actions.

Therapy is not about providing ready-made solutions but skillfully guiding individuals toward discovering their strengths, values and beliefs. This strategy can lead to increased self-awareness, improved problem-solving skills, and a greater understanding of one's patterns.

Professional Requirements

Although there are many shared benefits to working with a therapist or a life coach, these professionals have different roles and distinct services.

Registered counsellors are educated in counselling psychology and are trained in treating mental health problems. They abide by ethical standards of conduct and are members of a regulatory organization. To maintain good standing in their membership, these counsellors must seek supervision and continuing education. Where they practice, the law requires them to adhere to strict client confidentiality.
